Balloons lift off at sunrise, when the air is cool and the wind is calm. You are collected from your hotel in the dark, watch the envelopes inflate on the launch field, and take off as the light comes up. The flight lasts about an hour.

From the basket you look down on the valleys, the fairy chimneys and the eroded ridges around Goreme and Uchisar, with the old volcanoes on the horizon. Depending on the wind, you may drift low over the rock formations or climb to around 1,000 metres. Every flight follows a different path, because the route is set by the wind on the day.

Flights are run by licensed operators with experienced pilots, and each balloon is tracked by a ground crew that follows it to the landing field. Whether the balloons fly is decided each morning by the civil aviation authority, based on the weather.

What to Expect

• Hot air balloon rides are only conducted in optimal weather conditions. The decision to proceed with the flight is made by government officials at the last moment, based on the weather conditions, to ensure passenger safety. If a flight is canceled due to weather conditions, a full refund will be provided.

• Weather conditions can be unpredictable throughout the year, as flights take place at sunrise. It is recommended to dress appropriately for the conditions.

• Children under the age of 6 are not permitted to participate in the balloon flight.

• The duration of the balloon flight is approximately one hour, depending on the weather conditions.

• Balloon flight cancellations are more frequent during the winter months (December to March).

• Please note that while delays may occur due to traffic or one-way systems, the shuttle buses cannot wait if you are not ready at the scheduled pick-up time at your hotel or accommodation address, as this could delay other passengers.

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the flight (flights depart around 5:00 AM, so the deadline is 5:00 AM the previous day). Cancellations made within 24 hours of the flight, or a no-show on the morning of the flight, are charged the full amount. If the flight cannot take place due to weather, you receive a full refund. Whether the balloons fly is decided by the civil aviation authority on the morning of the flight, for passenger safety, not by us.
